The Sears Lab is currently looking to hire an eligible applicant for a Research Assistant II/III position. The Research Assistant will be responsible for performing experiments, general lab maintenance, analyzing/organizing data, and reporting data to their supervisor. Research will focus on understanding how factors such as diet, exercise, and cardiovascular comorbidities impact renal function. Experience that includes one or more of the following is highly desired but not required: small animal handling, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, PCR, western blotting, etc. Exceptional organizational and communication skills and ability to work in a team is required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in ongoing studies in the laboratory, including handling laboratory mice.
- Direct, conduct, and organize data collection and analysis activities; coordinate and schedule research activities.
- Ability to follow instructions and protocols to perform basic biochemical/molecular assays (qRTPCR, western blot, ELISA, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, histology).
- Organize and conduct statistical analysis of data generated from study results.
- Prepare written reports and documents pertaining to data management, research methodology, and study results.
- Maintain an organized record of reagents, samples, and lab materials.
- Research literature and help prepare journal articles for submission.
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree in biology, biochemistry, physiology, or related field.
- Proficient in MS outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint with effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Comfort working with laboratory mice.
